And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27

All those who are not in Christ are raised (referred to as the second resurrection) to face their fate. Every person who perished in sin will be judged for all their deeds, good and bad, in their life. If anyone thinks they lived a life good enough will learn that the standard of measure is the perfection of Jesus Christ. No matter how good they thought they were, they were not good enough without Christ. I suspect that all these will have realized this before they are ushered in. All those whose name is not in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire.

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15

Thankfully, believers will be saved from this terrible day. Instead, we who are in Christ will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. This judgment will be an assessment of our lives serving Christ. It is not a judgment to determine salvation but one of reward, as opposed to the punishment that the unbelievers will endure. This will determine the kind of heaven we will experience, and it is our motivation to serve Christ well during our time on earth!

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10
