Prayer is conversation with God. We talk to him as if he were in the room because, in a spiritual sense, he is. Prayer is a natural, everyday activity, and formalities are unnecessary. Religious rituals, customs, or procedures associated with prayer are unimportant. Prayer is often done in private, allowing individuals to spend time alone with God without distraction. When you pray, be thoughtful and sincere in what you say, considering the significance of the person with whom you are speaking. Pray with a clear conscience and unwavering faith, trusting God hears and will respond to your prayers. Pray all the time.
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18
In prayer, tell God what is on your heart. Express your gratitude to him for the incredible blessings he has showered upon you. Ask him to forgive you for the sin you wrestle with and to sanctify you to be more like his son. Ask him for wisdom in conducting your affairs to make good decisions and glorify his name. Pray for faith and that the Holy Spirit may guide you and strengthen your testimony.
Pray for those who are struggling and for those who do not know or have rejected Jesus. Pray for the well-being of your loved ones and your enemies as well. Present your needs to God, ensuring that your petitions align with His will. Tell him you are thankful for the day, the joy in your heart, and the beauty in your world. Pray about everything.
Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Mankind often mishandles spiritual things, and prayer is no exception. Here are some essential points to know about prayer:
- Virtue signaling with prayer is blasphemy; prayer is between you and God.
- Praying scripted phrases, mechanically delivered in endless repetition, accomplishes nothing.
- Prayer is a form of worship, so pray only to God, not to anyone or anything else, including deceased members of the human race.
- Do not beg for things you want, treating God as if he were your genie in a bottle.
- Know that your prayers will be hampered, or even disqualified, if you vacillate in the faith or if there is unaddressed sin in your life.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:5-7
There is great power in prayer. Prayer brings God into play, and witnessing the wise and beneficial outcomes of His work proves that our faith is not in vain. God answers prayers all the time; if prayers were useless, then Christianity would have ceased to exist long ago. Answered prayers demonstrate God’s wise and omnipotent presence; by this, he is glorified.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
