The supremacy of Jesus Christ.
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight. Colossians 1:15-22
Jesus is God. All things were created by him and for him, and all things are held together by him. He has reconciled us to himself, that even though we were filthy and evil, by his grace we are deemed holy, unblameable, and unreproveable in the sight of God. Clothed in his righteousness, we will not suffer the wrath of God, but instead enjoy the inheritance of his beloved children.
Set your affection on the things above.
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2
If saved by the grace of God, a redeemed, transformed soul, then pursue Christ and the spiritual things of God. Do not live for the fleeting pleasures and lies of the world. Our joy and peace are found in Jesus Christ; he is all you need.
Living as a Christian.
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels (emotions) of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity (love), which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:12-17
These six verses present a beautiful vignette of the Christian life. First is our standing as those chosen, deemed holy (set apart from the world) and beloved of God. For this, we are eternally grateful for the grace of God and the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf.
The new man, transformed by the Holy Spirit, has profound, sincere mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We forgive one another, just as Christ forgave us. Overarching all our thoughts, actions, and desires is a godly, Christian love (charity) for others. We are to be a testimony to the goodness of God.
The peace of God consumes us, and we abide in the word of Christ, living in submission to him. His word produces wisdom, and we are to develop each other and hold each other accountable, as we worship the living God. For the undeserved blessings that God showers upon us, we are eternally grateful.
Engage lost souls with compassion, humility, and kindness
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:5-6
Be careful, controlled, and kind when speaking with the lost. Be wise, not clever. Pray for the words, be present, and work to handle the word of God accurately. Aim to say, “come and see” and not “stay away.”
