Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16
The veil of the temple was the barrier that separated men from God. Once a year the high priest would pass beyond the veil to make a temporary atonement for the sins of the people. The moment that Jesus died on the cross (the permanent atonement), the massive veil was torn in two. Read Matthew 27:51 From this point on man is able to boldly approach God through Jesus. There is no longer a need for a priest of religion to come directly to God for mercy and grace. The only mediator between us and God is Jesus Christ.
